Regulatory Compliance Analyst (Environmental)

Overview

Environmental Regulatory Compliance Analysts ensure that organizations understand, track, and meet federal, state, and local environmental requirements. They monitor regulatory changes, support permitting and reporting activities, analyze compliance data, and help operational teams implement controls that reduce environmental risk. This role is essential in industries such as manufacturing, energy, utilities, transportation, and healthcare—where environmental oversight is complex and non‑compliance can result in fines, operational delays, or reputational harm.

Core Responsibilities

• Monitor federal, state, and local environmental regulations (EPA, state DEP, local ordinances) and communicate updates to internal stakeholders
• Support environmental permitting processes, including air, water, waste, stormwater, and hazardous materials permits
• Prepare or assist with regulatory submissions such as TRI, Tier II, RCRA, SPCC, NPDES, and emissions inventories
• Analyze environmental data, sampling results, and compliance metrics to identify trends and potential risks
• Conduct internal compliance audits and inspections to verify adherence to regulatory requirements
• Maintain documentation, records, and compliance calendars to ensure timely reporting and renewals
• Collaborate with EHS, operations, engineering, and legal teams to implement corrective actions and compliance strategies
• Assist in incident investigations related to spills, releases, or environmental deviations
• Support training efforts related to environmental compliance, waste handling, and pollution prevention
• Participate in interactions with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and inquiries

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of EPA regulations and state environmental programs
• Ability to interpret regulatory language and translate it into operational requirements
• Analytical skills for reviewing environmental data, sampling results, and compliance trends
• Excellent documentation, organization, and recordkeeping abilities
• Effective communication skills for working with regulators, internal teams, and leadership
• Familiarity with environmental management systems (EMS) and compliance software
