Job Summary:
Government & Military Environmental Officers oversee environmental compliance, hazardous materials management, and sustainability initiatives within federal, state, or defense-related agencies. They ensure operations meet environmental regulations, protect natural resources, and support mission readiness through safe and responsible practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct environmental audits and inspections across military installations or government facilities
- Manage hazardous waste programs, spill response, and pollution prevention efforts
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations (EPA, DoD, NEPA, RCRA, CERCLA)
- Develop and implement environmental management systems (EMS)
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and command staff on environmental impact assessments
- Monitor air, water, and soil quality and maintain reporting documentation
- Support training programs on environmental safety and regulatory awareness
- Liaise with regulatory agencies and prepare permit applications and renewal documents
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of environmental laws, hazardous materials, and sustainability practices
- Experience with GIS mapping, environmental sampling, and data analysis
- Familiarity with DoD environmental protocols and federal compliance frameworks
- Excellent communication, documentation, and cross-agency coordination skills
- Ability to work in field conditions and high-security environments

- CHMM – Certified Hazardous Materials Manager
- REM – Registered Environmental Manager
- CSP – Certified Safety Professional
- CESM – Certified Environmental and Safety Manager
