Freight Forwarder/Shipping Coordinator

🧭 Overview

Freight Forwarders and Shipping Coordinators are the logistical linchpins of global commerce, managing the movement of goods across borders and transportation modes. They coordinate shipments, prepare documentation, and liaise with carriers, customs officials, and clients to ensure timely and compliant delivery. These professionals balance speed, cost, and regulatory precision to keep supply chains flowing smoothly.

This role demands organizational agility, attention to detail, and a working knowledge of international shipping regulations, Incoterms, and customs procedures.

 

🛠️ Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate domestic and international freight shipments
• Prepare and review shipping documents (e.g., bills of lading, commercial invoices, customs declarations)
• Track shipments and update clients on delivery status
• Communicate with carriers, warehouses, and customs brokers to resolve delays or issues
• Negotiate freight rates and manage carrier relationships
• Ensure compliance with import/export laws, trade agreements, and Incoterms
• Maintain accurate records of shipments, inventory, and billing
• Collaborate with procurement, sales, and finance teams to align logistics with business goals
• Monitor carrier performance and recommend process improvements
• Support customs clearance and duty/tax calculations

 

🎓 Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in logistics, international business, or supply chain management
• Certifications: CDGP, IATA-FIATA, CSCP, CTL, SCPro, Dangerous Goods Handling
• Proficiency in logistics software (e.g., SAP, CargoWise, TMS platforms)
• Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with global trade regulations and customs procedures
