Resource Efficiency Managers (REMs) are sustainability-focused professionals who help organizations reduce energy consumption, optimize resource use, and improve environmental performance. Often embedded within government facilities, military installations, or large industrial campuses, REMs conduct audits, identify inefficiencies, and implement cost-saving strategies across energy, water, and waste systems.
They serve as technical advisors and change agents—translating data into actionable plans, coordinating with facility managers, and ensuring compliance with federal sustainability mandates. This role blends engineering insight with strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.

- Conduct energy and water audits across buildings, equipment, and infrastructure
- Analyze utility data to identify trends, anomalies, and savings opportunities
- Develop and implement resource efficiency plans tailored to site-specific needs
- Recommend upgrades to HVAC, lighting, insulation, and control systems
- Track performance metrics and report on cost savings and environmental impact
- Ensure compliance with federal energy mandates (e.g., EO 14057, Energy Independence and Security Act)
- Collaborate with facility managers, engineers, and sustainability officers
- Train staff on conservation practices and behavioral efficiency strategies
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and funding proposals
- Stay current on emerging technologies, rebate programs, and green building standards
🎓 Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or energy management
- Certifications: REM (Resource Efficiency Manager), CEM, LEED Green Associate, PMP
- 3–7 years of experience in energy auditing, facility operations, or sustainability consulting
- Proficiency in energy modeling software and utility benchmarking tools
- Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills
