Job Summary:
Government & Military Environmental Officers oversee environmental compliance, hazardous materials management, and sustainability initiatives within federal, state, or defense-related agencies. They ensure operations meet environmental regulations, protect natural resources, and support mission readiness through safe and responsible practices.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental audits and inspections across military installations or government facilities
  • Manage hazardous waste programs, spill response, and pollution prevention efforts
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations (EPA, DoD, NEPA, RCRA, CERCLA)
  • Develop and implement environmental management systems (EMS)
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and command staff on environmental impact assessments
  • Monitor air, water, and soil quality and maintain reporting documentation
  • Support training programs on environmental safety and regulatory awareness
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and prepare permit applications and renewal documents

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws, hazardous materials, and sustainability practices
  • Experience with GIS mapping, environmental sampling, and data analysis
  • Familiarity with DoD environmental protocols and federal compliance frameworks
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and cross-agency coordination skills
  • Ability to work in field conditions and high-security environments

 

Preferred Certifications:

  • CHMM – Certified Hazardous Materials Manager
  • REM – Registered Environmental Manager
  • CSP – Certified Safety Professional
  • CESM – Certified Environmental and Safety Manager
